When we travel by car or even do a boat holiday, we can get dizzy and even get nauseated. This is known as motion sickness. It is commonly known as motion sickness and occurs when there is overstimulation of the vestibular apparatus. This can lead to nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and cold sweats. Next, in this article you know what is motion sickness and what are the causes of its appearance.
What is motion sickness?
Motion sickness is a disorder of the balance that occurs when there is a sensory conflict between what we see and what the vestibular system, located in our ear perceives. This system is what makes us maintain the balance of our body and coordinate movements.
Symptoms of motion sickness
The most common symptoms of motion sickness are nausea and vomiting. But these may be unimportant when headaches, general discomfort, fatigue, vertigo, among other symptoms appear.
Although sometimes these symptoms appear only at first and disappear over time, they can also last longer and cause more serious problems.
In what situations is it more common to happen? Normally, it occurs in people who travel by car, plane, train or boat. It can affect any age, but is more common in children, pregnant women, and people who take certain medicines.
Differences between motion sickness and vertigo
Sometimes, motion sickness is often confused with vertigo, but the reality is that it has nothing to do with one another.
Vertigo is a feeling of movement that isn’t real. You can feel yourself or your environment moving, even if you’re still. Motion sickness, on the other hand, includes sensations such as feeling faint, weak, unstable or dazed, and sometimes the environment may also seem to move.

- Avoiding binges and eating something light before traveling, this way we stop feeling heavy. Preferably, it is better to make several stops to eat along the journey and in this way you will avoid possible distractions driving.
